Gen Z is Running to Christ
Revival is taking place in the hearts of America's youth. Gen Z is running to Jesus Christ in numbers never seen before. Recent studies by the Barna Group have shown that Gen Z young adults average 1.9 church services per month, totaling 23 services per year. Millennials average 1.8, totaling 22 services; Gen X at 1.6, totaling 19 services; and Baby Boomers at 1.4, totaling just under 17 services. What was once an age group projected to be the least church-attending group in U.S. history now has the highest monthly church attendance by generation.
You may ask, "Why is this happening? Why is Gen Z so driven toward a relationship with Christ?" As a young American, here is what I’ve noticed in myself and my peers that sheds some light on this generational shift.
Young Americans are hungry for the truth, the structure, and the community that comes along with accepting Christ and entering into His Kingdom. In a world dominated by isolating screens and alternate reality, we crave something real, something eternal, something beautiful, but most of all, we feel the endless love of God and know that we are never truly alone. In Chapter 13 of Hebrews, verse five tells us, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Submitting to the Almighty God of this world means recognizing that everyone was made with a purpose, and that purpose was designed by a God who loved us so much that He came down from Heaven to Earth as a man. He suffered like a man and died like a man, but on the third day He rose, and man was redeemed so that we can spend eternity with Him.
Young adults diagnosed with clinical depression have reported being completely cured of their anxiety and finding a sense of peace after making the decision to follow Jesus. He is the Divine Healer, the Great Physician, and the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Lord knows each and every one of us better than we know ourselves, and once we begin to follow His commandments that are written for our own protection, the attacks from this world become much easier to put into perspective.
A generation is rejecting the notions of self-worship and atheistic ideals pushed on them by the world and embracing the selflessness of a relationship with Jesus. America's youth is standing strong in their faith—a stance that is necessary for the Lord to bring Biblical obedience back to America.
